In Nepal the Koirala Family (Nepali: कोईराला बंश) refers to a family which has dominated Nepalese politics. Many of the family members have remained prominent figures in the Nepali Congress party since the country's first democratic movement. Three members, all brothers (Matrika Prasad Koirala, B. P. Koirala, Girija Prasad Koirala) have been Prime Minister of Nepal, and another family member. However, many more members of the family with other political affiliations have also served in a senior capacity in various Nepali Governments over the years and continue to do so currently.. Still, many more members who do not have political aspirations have gone on to become prominent members in Nepali society contributing in the professions, the arts, academics, and the media.
